Outcome.Life gave Steph the chance to use her marketing skills, whilst gaining more experience through an internship and partaking in professional networking events.
Born and raised in China, Steph has had an interesting education journey.
She left home at 14, to complete high school in Singapore, and then moved to Melbourne, to study a Bachelor of Business: Marketing at Monash University.
Moving to Melbourne all by herself, Steph relied on the help of friends to fund her studies, whilst also taking on multiple jobs to get by.
These included an array of jobs such as working in Myer as a casual sales assistant, and also as a TV extra, in Neighbours and The Wrong Girl.
To break into the marketing industry, Steph started off by seeking out an internship with the help of Outcome.Life.
“Being an international student can make things harder, especially when English isn’t your first language,” said Steph.
“Outcome.Life allowed me to build upon my marketing experience through an internship. And they gave me the opportunity to organise events, along with the chance to socialise at professional networking events.”
“When you’re in a new environment, you can feel very uncomfortable making friends locally, but you just have to push yourself out of your comfort zone and be brave.”
“These activities allowed me to gain a lot more independence and meet a variety of people.”
With many job positions seeking candidates who are Australian citizens or permanent residents, Steph is now working on further expanding her workplace experience so she can remain competitive once she starts her job search.
“After doing an internship with Outcome.Life and loving it, I want to do another one.”
“I’m now in my last semester of university and I’m only doing one unit of study, so it would be great to do another internship in my spare time.”
