So, You Want A Job?

Many students and graduates today are facing a frustrating problem: To get a job, you have to have experience, but how can you get experience without a job?

In the face of this despairing situation, some students and graduates choose to extend their formal education in an effort to distinguish themselves. But this leads to an excess of highly educated individuals for businesses to choose from and they will prioritise those who have experience.

So, now you’re in more student debt and still struggling to get hired. That’s where we come in – we know what businesses are looking for and can help you escape this cycle.

Bridging The Employability Skills Gap

After years of research and firsthand experience, we’ve developed a program that can help you win this “unwinnable” situation. In partnership with vetted host companies around the world, our Work Readiness Program ensures you gain relevant and valuable work experience in your chosen field.

More than 7,000 students and graduates like you have completed our government-approved program, which is specifically designed to help you take your first steps into employment. It includes a 12-week internship, access to free workshops and webinars, full insurance and coverage, and enrollment into our nationally recognised statement of attainment online course – BSBIND201 Work Effectively in a Business Environment (RTO: 45564).

All these elements combine to give you a winning combination of digital skills and business acumen training, hands-on experience, and professional network building. So you are empowered to expand your career horizons and take your first important step into employment.

How do we know this? We have successfully placed over 7,000 interns since our start in 2016. Out of the students and graduates who have completed an internship with us, half of them go on to work in their industry of choice within four months of finishing their internship.

Frequently asked questions

An internship is essentially a job that helps a student transition from study to work. It is an incredibly powerful way for students and graduates to apply their learning and gain an understanding of what is needed in the working world.

Internships allow students and graduates to further develop their skills and provide valuable experience that will assist in gaining meaningful employment in their field of study.

If you are new to Australia and are looking for a job, an internship can provide you with local, relevant experience that can help you differentiate yourself from other applicants.

Internships are the best way to expose you to Australian workplaces and workplace culture. University gives you skills and knowledge but does not allow you to apply your learning in a real-life situation. Internships give you practical experience and can often lead to secure employment.

Most businesses want to hire people who already have some sort of professional experience, so the challenge for all graduates is getting that first opportunity. Internships are the perfect way to gain that first crucial stint in your profession that will improve your employability dramatically. We have worked with a high number of interns who have secured full-time positions with their internship host company.

Outcome.Life offers a range of support system prior to and during your internship. When you become a part of the Outcome.Life community, you will gain access to the following additional services:

  • Coaching on the best type of internship for you
  • Access to our network of start-ups
  • Support to make sure your objectives are being met
  • Interview preparation assistance and tips
  • Connection to our community of professionals, employers, businesses and alumni
  • Discounts to events, seminars and lunches with inspirational guest speakers
  • Training on particular programming languages or accounting software
  • Assistance with getting a job at the end of your internship

Anyone can apply for the Outcome.Life Work Readiness + 12-Week Internship Program – student or graduate, young or old, local or international.

If you are international, you must have a valid visa with a minimum of 6 months remaining. You must also ensure that your Visa conditions allow you to participate in the program.

The majority of the internships that our Host Companies offer are unpaid.

Unpaid internships are legal in Australia if they are part of a vocational placement as defined by the Fair Work Act 2009, which is why we started the Work Readiness Program. Any unpaid internships or voluntary work that is not for a registered organisation is illegal and can result in legal action.

Please see the Fair Work Australia website for more information on the rules around work experience and internships.

Nationally, over 30% of interns receive permanent employment offers at their host company after completing their internship and approximately 90% of interns begin working within their field of study within 6 months. However, we cannot guarantee that our interns will be offered an ongoing role.

You can improve your chances of receiving a job offer at the end of your internship by learning as much as you can about the business and industry, working hard, networking and continuing to develop your knowledge and skills throughout your time with your host company.

We have helped over 3,000 internationals to find internship placements since starting our business. Many of our students have been successfully employed by the host company at the end of the internship, whereas others have used their internship experience to successfully find paid roles during or after their internship.

We believe that doing an internship can dramatically increase the chances of getting a real paid job as it can differentiate you from your peers in a competitive graduate market.

Absolutely!

If you are planning to do an internship for credit points, you will require official university documents outlining the course credit requirements. It is best to speak to your course advisor or the Work Integrated Learning (WIL) team at your university beforehand, as each university has different requirements for internship subjects.

Once you have the documents, book in for an appointment with one of our Placement Consultants, who will discuss the internship program with you in more detail. They will also highlight the internship opportunities we currently have available in your field of study.
